Welcome to our first full day on the floor!! Jaxson had a bit of a rough start to the night last night. After his midnight feeding he was super pukey, gaggy, and chokey….. Which is so not like him! He was having a super hard time getting his medications in and keeping them down. Pretty sure this is all due to the horrific tasting formula he has to be on, and it’s making his belly feel gross. This lasted for a couple of hours until he finally settled. He was also quite tachycardic (fast heart rate) and dehydrated yesterday due to high urine output from the diuretics and not enough eating. Needless to say this momma had a long night with him and I’m dead tired today.
This morning Jaxson got the dreaded blood work done. After a couple of pokes in his limbs by the very irritating, aggressive lab tech (this is our second experience with her and needless to say I am SO not impressed), our nurses had to go for the scalp veins. Well this little honey badger cried for all of 10 second while they fished around in his scalp, once they found the vein it took about a minute to get all of the blood needed. During this time Jaxson fell asleep!!! Everyone has been so impressed with how calm this baby is. We are VERY lucky mommas!
Today we got rid of some more attachments!! We got rid of the pacemaker (the wires will be left in until we are discharged). AND we ditched the oxygen for a whole hour!! He ended up de-sating, so back onto the oxygen he went. Seeing that he was on home O2 for quite a while it will just take him a bit longer then usual to wean him off. Here is our little guy with bare cheeks and no nasal canula!!
Today was also a big day for Jaxson because some very special ladies came to visit him!!
Cori and Adele came for Jaxson snugs!! SO nice to finally have visitors and be ‘normal’ in the hospital. We are honestly sitting in the hospital bored of looking at each other, so if your in the Edmonton area please come for a visit!!
Later this afternoon Jaxson got some of his dressings removed from his chest. His sternal wound is healing up great, and we are looking forward to being able to give him a real bath (not just the ‘bath wipes’)
I think that is all for tonight. We are just waiting for shift change to meet our night nurse, get little pickle to sleep then we are going to escape the confines of the hospital for a dinner out with Cori 🙂
Good morning Alex and Holly, many thanks for the update on Jaxson,he looks so peaceful hope you have a better day things will only get better.Love Grandma and Grandpa Sent: Tuesday, July 15, 2014 9:27 PM To: f.jack@rogers.com Subject: [New post] Day 6: Honey Badger

Thank you for sharing. The numerous conditions that “can be” associated with Ds, are often so frightening to parents . Heart surgery IS a big deal. Number 5, with mine , was just as frightening as the first. He is absolutely beautiful.
One day, I promise, you will reflect back and tell other parents “it wasn’t so bad .” Jaxson is taking you on an unbelievable journey. Congrats ladies.
